The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) continues its effort to enhance efficiency and transparency in regulatory processes through e-governance. In alignment with its commitment to digital transformation, CDSCO has introduced a new provision for the application and issuance of additional variants for already approved cosmetic products via the SUGAM online portal.
Enhancing the Cosmetic Registration Process
Since the implementation of e-governance through F. No. D.21013/230/2016, CDSCO has received various applications for registering and importing cosmetics, including requests for post-approval changes.
Recognizing the need for a more streamlined and structured approach, the regulatory body has now developed an online module specifically for handling applications related to additional variants of pre-approved cosmetic products.
Key Updates for Stakeholders
The new module on the SUGAM portal will allow cosmetic importers and manufacturers to apply for additional variants of already approved products.
The module will become operational 10 days from the date of this circular, providing stakeholders sufficient time to adapt to the new process
Stakeholders are advised to submit their applications via the SUGAM online portal once the system goes live
Future Take for Industry
All stakeholders, including importers, manufacturers, and distributors, should prepare to utilize the new feature by familiarizing themselves with the updated application process on the SUGAM portal. Proactive engagement with the system will help ensure a smooth transition and minimize delays in approvals.
This introduction is also marking another significant step in digitizing and simplifying the regulatory approval process for cosmetics in India. CDSCO aims to reduce paperwork and enhance compliance tracking for applicants seeking approvals for additional cosmetics variants.
