Starting on 1 July 2024, the Good Manufacturing Practise (GMP) Standards were implemented in the cosmetics industry, specifically for manufacturing sites. As announced by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) on 30 June 2024, this measure was taken to ensure the quality of all cosmetics products going through the manufacturing source is guaranteed.
This new standard implementation will undergo three (3) phases, starting with the manufacturing sites for sunscreens, hair dyes, perm products, antiperspirants, deodorants, and home-use teeth whitening products that contain peroxide. The next group of manufacturing sites is required to comply with the GMP requirements including those producing baby, lip, eye, non-medicinal toothpaste, and mouthwash cosmetics and this will take effect on 1 July 2025.
Taiwan’s GMP requirements for cosmetics manufacturing sites are based on ISO 22716, aligning with international standards. Furthermore, starting 1 July 2025, all cosmetic manufacturing sites will be expected to comply with these GMP requirements.
